About Shiatsu

At its most basic level, Shiatsu (meaning 'finger pressure') is a traditional Japanese bodywork. Like Acupuncture, Shiatsu's roots are based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but instead of needles, Shiatsu uses palm, finger and thumb pressure. By stimulating the body's internal energy ('ki' or 'chi') and finding the imbalances, Shiatsu can help you to feel better and more in control of your own health.

Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s
natural ability to heal and balance itself. It works on the whole
person - not just the physical body, but also you as a psychological, emotional
and spiritual being.

Your treatment will incorporate a variety of techniques specific to you.  These might include gentle holding and, if appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches.

On a more subtle, 'energetic' level, Shiatsu can enable you not only to relax deeply, but also encourage your body's own ability to heal.
